For extremely accurate belt tension measuring.
Testing tension with a spring tester depends on muscle and the results can vary from one operator to another. The Sonic Tension Meter works on the theory that a belt vibrates at a particular frequency based on its mass and span length. To test tension, you simply strum the belt to set it vibrating and record the resulting oscillating sound wave.
